Opening night at Stefan Stambolovo 36th Street 19:00

Through photography, video, and text I explore the subconscious in human behavior. I work with symbols to understand humans as part of a larger societal structure and how it involuntarily affects our feelings and actions. Place, memory, and the transience of life are another recurring themes in my practice. With a starting point from the pre-existing, I collect images and stories to find connections between them, to highlight what often can be overlooked. In many of my works I move between the personal and the universal, between past and present, in a hybrid of the staged and the documentary.

The exhibitions consists of two video works (“You’re finally home” and” Astor’s playing”) They both explore our relationships to places – both imaginary and tangible and ask questions about security, control and the connection to evanescence. The two works are based on a mixture of memory and fantasy and illustrate the sense of alienation and a feeling of being disconnect to “real life”. - Hanna Abrahamsson
