Varusha Fest
18.08. – 20.08.2023Welcome to the group show at gallery Heerz Tooya presenting four artists showcasing old and new artworks. For two days, the group exhibition is exclusively displayed only during the Varusha South 48h Festival in Veliko Turnovo. This is the second time Heerz Tooya has contributed to events for the neighborhood festival. Heerz Tooya is approaching its fifth year, continuing to present young and established Bulgarian and international artists and contemporary art.
Mathew Lacosse was born in 1990 in Amiskwacîwâskahikan/Edmonton, Canada and lives and works in Oslo, Norway. Lacosse recieved his MFA from the Oslo National Academy of the Arts and BFA from the University of Manitoba. Recent exhibitions include Guttormsgaards Arkiv, Kunstnernes Hus, Interkulterelt Museum, and Platform Centre for Photographic and Digital Arts. Additionally, Lacosse has been artist in residence at PRAKSIS, Oslo and held mentorships with Shep Steiner and Jenifer Papararo. Upcoming projects include a group exhibition at Heerz Tooya (2023), residency and internship at ARV.International (2023), and a research period supported by the Sasakawa Foundation (2024).
Sophia Grancharova (b. 1994 in Sofia, Bulgaria) studied fine arts at ESAM Caen, France. She has participated in many group exhibitions, educational initiatives, and her own curatorial projects. Member of the Institute of Contemporary Art-Sofia and the Justice for All Initiative. Her work comes in the form of limited editions of artist’s books, performances, photography, collage, installations and site-specific interventions.
Lyuben Malchev Born on 25thNovember, 1992 in Kazanlak, Bulgaria. Education: Graduated in 2011 from the National School of Plastic Arts and Design “Academician Dechko Uzunov” - Kazanlak, specialty - Painting. Graduated in 2016 from the University of Veliko Tarnovo “St. St. Cyril and Methodius” - Veliko Tarnovo, specialty - Painting I work mainly in the field of painting and strive for socially engaged art.
The exhibition is supported under the "Program for the Restoration and Development of Private Cultural Organizations" of the National Fund for Culture, Bulgaria. Tequila Bar Fnky Mnky also supports the exhibition.
